Double DHCP
Good thinking! If Tplink’s DHCP is only enabled manually when Ultra fails, then it can use the same DHCP range as Ultra (192.168.4.x) to avoid reconfiguring devices.
Updated Network Plan with Unified DHCP
Device Interface Assigned IP Gateway
Ultra WAN Connected to Swish 192.168.40.229 (DHCP) 192.168.40.1 (Swish)
Ultra LAN Serving DHCP 192.168.4.6 N/A (It is the gateway)
Tplink WAN Connected to Swish 192.168.40.x (DHCP) 192.168.40.1 (Swish)
Tplink LAN (DHCP OFF by default, but same as Ultra when enabled) 192.168.4.6 N/A
Stick PC Failsafe Configuration (No Changes Needed)
• IP Assigned via DHCP when Ultra is Active: 192.168.4.x
• If Ultra fails and Tplink DHCP is enabled: Same range is used, no need to reconfigure devices.
• No conflict since Tplink DHCP is manually enabled only when needed.
Benefits
✅ Seamless Transition — No need to reconfigure any LAN device.
✅ Minimal Manual Work — Just enable Tplink’s DHCP when Ultra is down.
✅ Stick PC and other devices retain their IP settings.
Final Consideration
Would you like to reserve a static IP for the Tplink LAN (e.g., 192.168.4.2) so that even with DHCP disabled, it’s still reachable on the LAN? This way, you can always access it when needed, even without DHCP. 🚀
